A state watchdog agency has found that the South Carolina Arts Commission has staffing in line with staffing of similar commissions in other states.
That was a major finding of a report issued Wednesday morning by the Legislative Audit Council, the agency that investigates and audits other state departments and agencies at the request of the General Assembly.
“The staffing level of the SC Arts Commission of 14 fulltime employees and three part-time employees is consistent with staffing levels of state arts agencies in Southern states and the nation,” the report said.
However, the arts commission could be more transparent and improve its financial reporting and accounting to ensure compliance with state law, the report found.
The report was made at the request of members of the SC House Ways and Means Committee.
