Kamala Harris is back in Columbia this week for a town hall with Mayor Steve Benjamin

Ed. note — the location of Harris’s Columbia town hall was updated on Friday, Feb. 15.

U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris is coming back to South Carolina this weekend for a pair of town-hall meetings.

The 2020 presidential candidate has announced two town hall events, one in Charleston on Friday and another in Columbia on Saturday.

Harris’ Columbia town-hall meeting will be moderated by fellow Democrat and Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin, her campaign said in an email. In Charleston, that role will be filled by Brady Quirk-Garvan, chairman of the Charleston County Democratic Party.

The Lowcountry event will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at the Royal Family Life Center, 4750 Abraham Ave., North Charleston. The next day, Harris will talk to Benjamin at 1:30 p.m. at the Brookland Health and Wellness Center, 1066 Sunset Blvd., West Columbia.

Harris last appeared in Columbia three weeks earlier for the Jan. 25 Pink Ice gala hosted by her Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. She also recently added Jalisa Washington-Price, a former state director for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, to her S.C. staff.

The California senator is one of several Democrats who already has jumped into the 2020 presidential race. South Carolina will host the first-in-the-South Democratic primary in February 2020.
