Columbia Democrat Ed Greenleaf plans to run against U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-Springdale, for the 2nd District congressional seat.
Greenleaf, who works for BlueCross BlueShield subsidiary Palmetto GBA, officially will announce next week his candidacy against Wilson, who has represented the district since 2001.
His first campaign for public office, Greenleaf says he's running with the goal of "working to make America more competitive on a global level and bringing representatives from both parties together to balance the nation’s budget and put our economic spending policies back in order."
“What we have now in Washington is not working. It’s time for a new Congress,” Greenleaf said in the news release. “The days of political posturing and Congressional gridlock have to end, because our representatives are failing when it comes to serving constituents.”
Greenleaf is a graduate of the University of South Carolina.
He will make his official campaign announcement at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the Seibels House and Garden, 1601 Richland Street.
