Former Biden backer moves to O’Malley’s presidential campaign

A former Joe Biden backer is joining Democratic presidential hopeful Martin O’Malley’s S.C. campaign efforts.

Isaiah Nelson will endorse the former Maryland governor Thursday and help the campaign as a senior adviser, the O’Malley campaign said.

Nelson was director of Draft Biden South Carolina, a PAC that encouraged Biden to seek the Democratic nomination. He also worked for Obama for America in 2012, helped Elizabeth Colbert Busch’s 2013 campaign for South Carolina’s 1st District congressional seat, and ran the 2014 campaign for the state’s federal and statewide Democratic candidates.

"In light of Vice President Biden's decision not to run ... there is only one candidate in this race who has delivered results from raising the minimum wage, signing marriage equality into law, abolishing the death penalty” and supporting education, Nelson said in a news release.

O’Malley trails far behind Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders in South Carolina’s presidential primary and in national polls.
