Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton added the names of several Democratic state lawmakers Friday to her list of supporters.
Those endorsing Clinton included state Rep. James Smith, D-Richland, who unsuccessfully urged Vice President Joe Biden to seek the Democratic presidential nomination.
Other endorsements announced Friday include:
▪ State Sens. Karl Allen of Greenville, Brad Hutto of Orangeburg, Darrell Jackson of Richland, Kevin Johnson of Clarendon and Margie Bright Matthews of Colleton

▪ State Reps. Jimmy Bales of Richland, Justin Bamberg of Bamberg, Joseph Jefferson of Berkeley, Mia McLeod of Richland and Walt McLeod of Newberry
Meanwhile, Democratic presidential hopeful Martin O’Malley has hired Tyler Jones as his state director, the campaign’s first full-time hire in the Palmetto State.
According to polls, Clinton holds a roughly 50 percentage-point lead in South Carolina, which holds its Democratic primary Feb. 27. U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders and O’Malley trail in second and third place, respectively.
