Heavy rainfall soaks Midlands, causes some areas to flood

Heavy rainfall poured in the Columbia area Thursday and Friday, with some bodies of water rising above flood stage.

The National Weather Service reported rain from showers and thunderstorms from Thursday and early Friday morning left many areas with two to four inches of rainfall.

Areas in Richland County received the highest concentration of rain, with Crane Creek in the northern part of Columbia receiving the most at 4.61 inches.

Lower Richland Fire Stations reported the next highest amount at 4.33 inches of rain.

NWS reported at midnight that Rocky Branch Creek was at 7.98 feet, with the flood stage at 7.2 feet.

Flash flood warnings were issued Thursday night for the Columbia, West Columbia and Dentsville areas that lasted until 1:45 a.m. Friday.
