Regardless of how destructive his keep-our-money-out-of-South-Carolina antics had been, Mark Sanford’s self-inflicted fall from grace did nothing good for our state. It was tragic on a personal and political level and left South Carolina in even more turmoil than it already was.
It will take some time to recover. For the rest of the nation, though, it was welcomed comic relief. And for those who make a living making fun of others, it was a bonanza.
As we near the end of The Year of Mark Sanford (may his name retreat from our headlines soon), we take a moment to look back on the political cartoonists’ take on our governor.
