Sen. Vincent Sheheen’s misstatement is a golden opportunity for Gov. Nikki Haley’s camp to refocus the voters’ attention on a non-issue rather than taking a good, hard look at her abysmal track record of the last four years.
While I cannot speak to the circumstances of others, I have watched my personal information be stolen on her watch and then had to suffer the indignity of being stonewalled until she was forced to own up to it. I have sadly born witness to the deaths and abuse of numerous small citizens who depended upon our governor to protect them. I have watched her pander to the tea party interests, while ignoring the very real needs of our poorest citizens and refusing money that could have provided better health care, even temporarily.
While our state has been floundering and education has been deteriorating, I have watched her fly off to all parts of the country to tout her non-accomplishments and accept money from questionable characters who seem to have a keen interest in who sits in our Governor’s Mansion, all of which I find most unsettling.
Nikki Haley has done nothing to deserve re-election. But we in South Carolina seem to be slow figuring that out. People seem to cherry pick the truths they want to hear and ignore the rest. Why we would want four more years of this mess is beyond me. I encourage everyone to go to the polls, show her to the door and let her take her special-interest friends with her. We can do better.
