What happened to good music? For many years, the Midlands had a dozen or so commercial stations that played good music, ranging from easy listening to swing, jazz, country, Western swing, bluegrass, etc.
Now one is hard-pressed to find anything other than a lot of beating, banging, screaming and hollering that is bereft of any musical quality. Some is pure filth.
It is a crying shame that our capital city has nothing better to offer than this. All we have to choose from is rock and roll, in its many manifestations and perversions, and “country music” that has devolved into just another rock and roll genre.
I have listened almost exclusively to talk radio because there is very little else that appeals to me. WVOC had a good talk-show format, but this has been changed to an entirely different format. It has been moved to a much weaker station. I’m aware of the satellite radio alternative, but that doesn’t take the place of local stations that play free, good music.
