If we lived in a perfect world, all men would act as gentlemen and all women would act as ladies. Obviously, our world is not perfect, and there are predators out there.
Anyone who chooses to visit the opposite sex in a hotel room, or who chooses to drink when plied with cocktails to the point of passing out, is incredibly naive or just stupid. Women (and men) must accept personal responsibility. Unfortunately, inappropriate dress and behavior often bring out the worst in predators. While I agree that this shouldn’t be the case, it often is. Marching and talking aren’t going to change that reality.
As my high school teacher daughter and I purchased 35 winter coats, scarves, mittens, and sweaters for local elementary students in her district, she thanked me for raising her to participate in positive activities that benefit society rather than marching and ranting.
If those million women who marched in protest of President Trump had spent that hotel/transportation/meal money to buy winter clothes for children, how many fewer youngsters would be cold?
But again, we don’t live in a perfect world, and not all people make choices that benefit others.
The State publishes a cross section of the letters we receive from South Carolinians in order to provide a forum for our community and also to allow our community to get a good look at itself, for good or bad. The letters represent the views of the letter writers, not necessarily of The State.
