March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Have a detailed talk with your physician about how often you need a colonoscopy.
Colorectal cancer is being diagnosed in people younger than 50 more frequently than in the past. A colonoscopy is the best screening test, but does not guarantee you are disease free. Even if you are of average risk (no family history and no polyps in the past), don’t wait 10 years between colonoscopies. Be proactive. Your life could depend on it.
The State publishes a cross section of the letters we receive from South Carolinians in order to provide a forum for our community and also to allow our community to get a good look at itself, for good or bad. The letters represent the views of the letter writers, not necessarily of The State.
