We need an iWall, a smart wall! Some physical barriers are needed, yes, but more boots on the ground and technology should go along with them. Sensors, drones, radar and other modern means need to be in place with more agents – and physical barriers. Some altering of the terrain is needed. Places that allow for attack from higher ground should be considered for leveling.
Also, countries must plan together to eliminate the problems that drive immigrants to come to the border. Furthermore, immigrants could be vetted at U.S. installations in their countries. I read that the U.S. is working with Colombia to reduce the cultivation of drug plants by half. Can we not work on immigration together? If countries are unwilling, aid can be used as leverage. Bring back the Peace Corps to teach in these countries.
Trump and any other official not offering solutions need to get off the high horse and be realistic and modern. Stop worrying about what makes an official “look foolish” (Trump) and get things done! Permanent solutions are needed – not a knee-jerk reflex if we want not only to stop illegal entry but to solve the problems that make people leave their countries.

President should tax rich to pay for wall
If the president really wants to built the wall, and we need it, he can do so without raising our outrageous national debt. All he has to do is pass a 10 percent income-tax surcharge on the net income of anyone making over $1 million. This would provide plenty of money and perhaps a surplus, in the event a South Carolina company gets the contract! It would hurt no one as the fat cats have seen a 50-percent reduction in their income tax since the 1970s and last year received the largest tax cut in modern history and their income has soared.
Trump’s wall is no more than idol worship
In the year 580 BC, King Nebuchadnezzar built a huge monument for his subjects to worship. His memorial was as efficacious as the wall our president wants to build along our border. This wall is useful in aiding the president in keep an unrealistic campaign promise to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it. And perhaps provide his base with a monument for him.
Trump insists on building this useless monument because he knows with American voters it is better to do the wrong thing and keep a useless campaign promise, than it is to do what’s best for the nation and break misguided pledges.
President Bush broke his “no new taxes” pledge and lost re-election. Obama didn’t lose but allowing Syria to go unpunished for using chemical weapons is a stain on his presidency among most Republicans and many Democrats.
Both Bush and Obama had valid reasons for not following through on their promise. However, Trump’s $5 billion wall is as ineffective as the idol king Nebuchadnezzar erected 2,599 years ago.
The most perplexing thing is that Trump voters ignore the original promised that Mexico would pay for the wall. He and they now want the American taxpayer to pay for his promise. His supporters, which consists of almost all Republicans, quixotically want him to break his promise to make Mexico pay the construction cost. Yet they insist he should force the American taxpayers to pay for what would only forever be a monument to Trump.
With American voters doing the selecting, there is little wonder that such a man as Trump is president of these United States.
All employers should use E-verify when hiring possible immigrants
Just a couple of questions and a point to ponder.
First, why aren’t businessmen and farmers complaining about immigrants, legal or illegal? Easy answer, they are making billions of dollars off them. So, if we don’t want illegal immigrants, how do you stop or limit it? Well, maybe the best way is to make the job environment bad for them. How do you do that? How about making the people who hire them uncomfortable? Make everyone use E-verify – check on citizenship or legal status. It’s not perfect, but what is?
Heavily punish people who do not use it and heavily punish those hiring illegals. If businessmen and farmers won’t hire illegals then fewer will come. It is a simple supply-and-demand equation. If no demand, then supply decreases. So, why won’t Congress do this? Just look at their contributors.
Call your congressman and senator and demand E-verify. Think about it, please.
History teaches us that walls don’t work
Donald Trump ran on a false campaign promise of building a wall on our southern border and having Mexico pay for it. Now he has shut down the government because Congress didn’t ante up the money to help him keep his ill-conceived promise. Any student of history will tell you that walls don’t work, e.g., China’s Great Wall, the Wall of Jericho, Hadrian’s Wall and the Berlin Wall. This is just another ruse perpetrated by a man who has made a career of conning people. I, for one, don’t want one dollar of my tax money used to build a useless wall.
