The seventh-seeded Clemson men’s soccer team edged No. 25 Coastal Carolina 2-1 Monday night in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Tigers (12-6-3) advance to the Round of 16 for the first time since 2006 and for the 23rd time in program history. Clemson hosts North Carolina on Sunday.
The Tigers opened the scoring on Paul Clowes’ rebound with 40 seconds left in the first half. Twelve minutes into the second half, the Tigers went up 2-0 when Diego Campos scoared from a Manolo Sanchez cross.
Coastal hit back five minutes later when Tom Gudmundsson headed home a free kick from Elis Bjornsson.
