Pelion’s bid for its first third-round playoff win was unsuccessful on Friday night as the Panthers fell to Cheraw, 41-26, in the Class 2A Division I playoffs.
The Panthers posted 215 yards — all on the ground — led by two touchdowns from leading rusher Ervin Green.
Pelion (7-5) was hanging in with the top-seeded Braves, trailing by 14-12 at the half after both of its two-point conversion attempts failed.
Quarterback Zach Hawkins’ 13-yard scoring run put the Panthers ahead in the third, but Cheraw countered with a 27-yard strike from Robert Pitts to David Brown.

Cheraw never looked back.
The Braves outscored Pelion 20-6 in the fourth quarter on the strength of two of Khalil Newton’s three touchdowns.
Newton led the game with 125 yards on 21 carries. Green had 120 yards on 17 carries for the Panthers.
The Panthers, a No. 4 seed, had earned a spot in their first ever third-round game with a first-round bye and a second-round win against Crescent. Pelion has yet to win two playoff games in a season.
Cheraw will face Fairfield Central in the semifinals next week.
