DB and WR Denzel Johnson (6-2 191) of AC Flora is seeing his recruiting activity heat up as the recruiting campaign for the 2015 class winds down. He's had a Clemson offer for a while but the Tigers recently stepped up their interest in him. Johnson also has offers from Towson State, Liberty, Georgia Southern, Citadel, SC State and Appalachian State.
Johnson made an official visit to Towson State last weekend and is scheduled to visit Georgia Southern January 23rd. He also plans to take an official visit to Clemson in January.
"I don't know if they want me as a wide receiver," Johnson said of Clemson. "It's nice up there. The fans, it's a good environment. A lot of high quality stuff up there."
Including the nation's #1 ranked defense heading into the bowl game.
"It's swag," he said of Clemson's defensive style. "I like it."
Johnson said Towson State is recruiting him hard as a receiver. Georgia Southern is coming at him hard and The Citadel wants him to visit. Johnson is not naming a favorite but it's hard for him not to think about playing big time football at Clemson.
"I'm definitely thinking about Clemson but I want to weigh my options, so there's no favorite."
This season Johnson had 66 catches for 910 yards and 12 touchdowns, and he had 60 tackles with 2 interceptions and 8 passes broken up.
Johnson is spending this week preparing for the Touchstone Energy Bowl North-South Game in Myrtle Beach.
