Gator pledge lands back on the market

Defensive end Chaz Sutton(6-foot-4, 230) of Savannahcommitted to Florida in July andremained firm with his pledgeuntil getting a call from the Gatorsthe Monday after his official visit.

“I guess they felt like I wasn’tgoing to make it (academically),and they were going to sign meand put me in Hargrave (Prep inVirginia),” Sutton said. “Then theydecided they weren’t going to signme. They went back on theirword, and I didn’t like that.”

Now that Sutton is back on themarket, USC and Clemson havemoved in.

Sutton said he might take avisit to Clemson on Wednesday,and he will make an official visitto USC this weekend.

He said it’s not out of the questionhe could qualify.

“I’ve still got some tests to takeand some grades to pan out,” hesaid. “I’m doing pretty good rightnow.”

Coaches meet with Lucas. NewUSC defensive coordinator EllisJohnson and assistant coachShane Beamer met Monday withlinebacker Sterling Lucas (6-2,220) of Orangeburg-Wilkinson.

Lucas made his official visit toUSC over the weekend. He alsois considering North Carolina andN.C. State and will have adecision by Wednesday, accordingto his coach, Reggie Kennedy.

Brown to decide by Thursday. Widereceiver Jaron Brown (6-3, 190)of Cheraw said he planned tohave a decision by Thursdayafter meeting with his recruitersearlier in the week.

Clemson and Michigan arevisiting him today, and USC isvisiting Wednesday.

When asked which schoolafforded the opportunity for theearliest playing time, Brown saidUSC.

Quinn receiving visitors. LinebackerRobert Quinn (6-6, 255) of FortDorchester this week will seerecruiters from all four of theschools pursuing him.

“I know Alabama, Auburn,North Carolina and South Carolinaare coming in,” Quinn said.

Quinn said he talked recentlywith USC recruiter Shane Beamerafter the hiring of new defensivecoordinator Ellis Johnson.

Quinn said he does not have afavorite and there is not a lot ofdifference among the schools.

Streeter to decide on Sunday. Widereceiver Tommy Streeter (6-5,200) of Miami has visited USC,Boston College and Oregon andwill visit Miami this weekend. Hisfather said his son will have adecision on Sunday.

USC coach Steve Spurrier isscheduled for his in-home visitwith the Streeters today.
