Georgia women's soccer tops Clemson

At Clemson, Georgia's Carrie Patterson hit a penalty kick in the 48th minute to lift the Bulldogs to a 2-1 victory against Clemson at Riggs Field.

The Tigers fall to 2-5, while the Bulldogs improve to 7-0-1.

The Tigers put the game's first goal on the board less than two minutes into the first half on freshman forward Maddy Elder's seventh goal of the season.

Georgia evened the score with a goal in the 13th minute of play.

"It is disappointing for the game-winning goal to be a penalty kick, but I was really proud of our effort," coach Hershey Strosberg said. "There are a lot of positives to take from this game and, as I told the team, the execution will come as long as the effort continues like it did tonight."

CROSS COUNTRY

Clemson women 2nd, men 4th at Mountaineer Open

At Boone, N.C., the Clemson women finished runner-up and the men's team was fourth at the Mountaineer Open. It was the second meet of the young season for the Tiger cross country teams.

The women tallied 60 points, finishing behind host Appalachian State (49). On the men's side, Ohio State won with 27 points. Clemson was fourth with 106 total points.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

Orange defeats White at Clemson meet

At Clemson, the Orange team defeated the White team 234-200 as the Clemson men's and women's swimming and diving team held their annual Orange and White meet at McHugh Natatorium. On the women's side, Orange won 119-97, and Orange the men also triumphed 115-103.

The Tigers begin their dual meet season at Davidson on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m..

VOLLEYBALL

Michigan State holds off Clemson in five sets

At Clemson, Lia Proctor led Clemson with a game-high 18 kills, but the Clemson volleyball team fell to Michigan State at the Clemson Classic on Friday.

The Spartans (11-0) gave the Tigers (8-3) an excellent match- with each set falling within three points (23-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 12-15).

Earlier in the day, the Tigers scored a 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-16) victory against Presbyterian (4-7).
