USC-Clemson: Thumbs up, thumbs down

C.J. Spiller.

His game-opening 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown was the NCAA-record-breaking seventh of his career, and pushed him past 7,000 all-purpose yards in four seasons.

Stephen Garcia

USC's quarterback had the rare privilege of matching Spiller's rushing total (18 yards) on one play, an 18-yard draw that sparked the Gamecocks' first touchdown drive. The rest of Garcia's day (126 yards passing and three touchdowns) wasn't bad, either.

USC running game

Running backs Kenny Miles (114 yards) and Brian Maddox (44 yards and a touchdown) plus Garcia (46 yards on 14 carries) led USC to a 223-yard rushing effort, tied for second-best under Spurrier; USC had 287 yards vs. Florida Atlantic this season).

Kyle Parker

The Tigers' quarterback struggled against USC's pressure, completing 11-of-22 passes for 85 yards and an interception through three quarters. Parker finished with 212 yards (22-of-42) and a touchdown, most coming after the game was decided.

Clemson turnovers

No fumble or interception is ever good, but the Tigers' were particularly poorly timed. Jamie Harper's fumble resulted in USC's first touchdown, Parker's interception was returned 54 yards to set up the Gamecocks' second score, and Spiller's fumble resulted in a missed USC field goal.
