I’m usually not a believer in style points.
Saturday’s game against Furman is the exception to that rule. South Carolina will beat Furman in Williams-Brice Stadium, but I will be very interested to see how it happens.
The Gamecocks showed signs last week that they could compete for the Eastern Division title this season by beating Georgia. They can make another statement Saturday in how they handle the Paladins.
If Furman, no slouch but not in Carolina’s class, hangs around and makes the game interesting in the second half, I will have some questions about South Carolina’s maturity. If the game is over by halftime, I think there are reasons to believe this team has the mental makeup to compete through a long SEC season.

My guess is no one in the Eastern Division will get through the conference unscathed. I think the winner could have two or even three losses, in fact. In those cases, being mentally tough makes a huge difference.
The Gamecocks will be 3-0 on Sunday morning, but what kind of 3-0 will it be?
