USC equestrian team member Victoria Middleton, a redshirt junior, will be competing in her first event since the end of the 2008-2009 season after recovering from an injury. The Gamecocks will face Georgia in Athens on Saturday.
Middleton was injured during the summer of 2009 while bathing a horse in preparation for a horse show in Bennington, Vt. The horse became scared and broke the fencing where it was tied, causing the rail to hit Middleton in the face and knocking her to the ground. During the fall, she hit her head on the cement surface.
She underwent an extensive recovery program.
As a sophomore in 2009, Middleton was 12-1-1 with three MVP's in Equitation on the Flat. She was a member of South Carolina's Southern Equestrian Championship competition as team as well as the Gamecock squad that competed at the Varsity Equestrian National Championships.
