FSU's Ponder still idled with arm injury

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Florida State has returned to the practice field to prepare for its Dec. 31 Chick Fil A Bowl game against South Carolina, but without quarterback Christian Ponder.

Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher said Tuesday that Ponder would resume practice Dec. 26 in anticipation of playing against the Gamecocks. Ponder battled an arm injury for much of the season while leading the Seminoles to a 9-3 record. He was held out of the Dec. 4 Atlantic Coast Conference title game after the injury flared up after a 31-7 win over Florida.

Sophomore EJ Manuel, who is 4-2 as a starter as Ponder's backup, will take all the first-team snaps the next 10 days.

Fisher also said junior running back Jermaine Thomas would resume practicing Thursday.
