USC shortstop Peter Mooney has agreed to contract terms with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Mooney was the team’s 21st round draft pick last month.
According to a source, the Blue Jays upped their offer to around $90,000 to sign Mooney.
Mooney played one season with the Gamecocks after arriving from junior college. Mooney batted .280 with four home runs and 37 RBIs.
He's the first Gamecock veteran with eligibility remaining to opt for pro baseball.
First baseman Christian Walker is the only starting infielder returning for next season. The Gamecocks have to fill voids left by second baseman Scott Wingo (Dodgers), third baseman Adrian Morales (Royals) and catchers Brady Thomas and Robert Beary (undrafted).
