A report by SportsTalkSC.com on Wednesday said dismissed tight end Weslye Saunders met with athletics director Eric Hyman on Tuesday and asked to be reinstated to the team.
Spurrier would not confirm or deny the report.
“That’s not in my hands,” he said. “That’s not up to me.”
Asked if he would allow a return by Saunders, Spurrier said, “That’s not up to me at this time.”
A university official told The State on Wednesday night that Saunders’ status hasn’t changed.
Saunders father, Barry, told The State he was unaware of any such request by his son.
“I haven’t heard a thing about that,” Barry Saunders said. “All I know is Weslye is a student at USC working towards his degree. I think Weslye has accepted the fact that he’s no longer part of the football team and is moving on with his life.”
