South Carolina sophomore Alshon Jeffery has been named a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which goes to the nation’s top wide receiver.
Jeffery is in the final grouping with nominees Justin Blackmon of Oklahoma State and Ryan Broyles of Oklahoma.
"Alshon is certainly deserving," said head coach Steve Spurrier. "He has had an excellent year. He is an outstanding player and an outstanding practice player. He is also a very good teammate. We couldn't be happier for him."
About Jeffery: A 6-4, 233-pounder from St. Matthews, Jeffery leads the SEC with 70 receptions and with 1,210 receiving yards, averaging 110.0 yards per game. He is fifth in the NCAA in receiving yards per game and his 1,210 receiving yards is a school record. Jeffery has seven touchdowns and averages 110 yards per game.
About Blackmon: Blackmon is the national leader in total receiving yards (1,560), receiving yards per game (156.0), receiving touchdowns (17) and total touchdowns (19). He is second nationally with 9.4 receptions per game and is third nationally with 11.4 points scored per game. He has at least 125 receiving yards in every game this season.
About Broyles: Broyles has 106 receptions for 1,309 yards, averaging 12.3 per catch. He averages 119 receiver yards a game and has 12 touchdowns.
The Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to the nation’s top college receiver. The next vote for the winner will take place November 29 and close on December 5. The winner of the Biletnikoff Award will be announced on the Home Depot College Football Awards show, live on Thursday, December 9 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
