South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp gives an update on how his quarterbacks are playing after three spring practices and explains how sophomore Dakereon Joyner has progressed from his freshman season.

South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp was out on his team’s practice field on Thursday to watch players like Deebo Samuel and Bryson Allen-Williams go through Pro Day. He also took a few minutes to update some injuries, odds and ends about his team as it looks toward its eighth and ninth spring practices.

On tailback Rico Dowdle, who was in a non-contact jersey on Wednesday: “He’s been taking part in practice. Hopefully get him back for some contact there at the end in the spring.”

On lineman Maxwell Iyama, who has been out with an unidentified condition: “He has not been cleared yet. Still working through that process. It’s been very frustrating for Max and us as well.”

Muschamp added he was hopeful he’ll be able to get back at some point this season.

On linebacker Eldridge Thompson, who is waiting on an NCAA appeal for a sixth year: “(No update) at this time. We’re still working through that, but he’s been involved in practice and non-contact because of his shoulder. He’s been inovolved in more contact than they probably wanted him to.”

On OrTre Smith’s injury progress: “Good. He won’t be cleared for 11-on-11 as far as spring is concerned, but he had a very unusual situation with his subluxed kneecap. His mom Tashia actually had the same issue in college. ... I think he’s going to be fine. Still coming through the rehab process, but we think he’s going to be fine.”
