I have been pretty open for a couple weeks about my belief that South Carolina is going to beat Florida on Saturday.
I guess this belief clearly marks me as a newcomer to the Gamecocks program.
Again and again, I have been asked some version of this question: “How could you think such a silly thing?” And I’ll admit, there are ample reasons not to believe.
In no particular order they are: more than 100 years of history, pass defense and an allergy to an opponent’s stadium.

I know all of these things, and I still think South Carolina can and will win the game. I think that when the Gamecocks play their best football, they are the best team in the Eastern Division. I understand that they have only played their best football one time in nine chances this year, and I also understand that being the best team in the Eastern Division ain’t what it used to be.
Still, I stand by my pick and say, at least until Saturday at 10:30, leave me alone about it.
Gamecocks 25ish, Gators 18ish.
