South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier took a moment Tuesday to reflect on the Gamecocks’ historic victory over Florida before moving on to this week’s opponent during his weekly press conference.
“It was a wonderful weekend last weekend for the Gamecocks,” Spurrier said. “I really want to thank the baseball team for getting it started, for proving you can win championships at South Carolina.”
South Carolina clinched the SEC’s Eastern Division title with a 36-14 win over the Gators on Saturday. Spurrier also mentioned the men’s soccer team, which won the Conference USA tournament last week.
“Some good things are happening in all of our sports,” Spurrier said. “Hopefully, we can continue on and have some success in Atlanta in three weeks.”

The Gamecocks (7-3, 5-3 SEC) take on Troy (5-4, 4-2 Sun Belt) at 12:21 on Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium. Spurrier laid out the game plan for that contest Tuesday.
“We are going to come out and give the ball to Marcus Lattimore and start running,” he said. “We are not going to come out and throw three incomplete passes and move on. I just wanted to tell our fans that, we’re going to run the ball.”
