Will Muschamp breaks down Gamecocks at the NFL Combine

The on-field part of the NFL Combine begins Friday. The first USC product at this year’s event will take the field Saturday, and in the following days there will be plenty of scouting reports available about the potential of tight end Hayden Hurst, linebacker Skai Moore, defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth and cornerback Jamarcus King.

While we wait for those, here are Gamecocks head coach Will Muschamp’s scouting reports on each of the players. Muschamp was a defensive coordinator with the Miami Dolphins under Nick Saban for one season.

Hayden Hurst

Draft Projection: Second round

Muschamp: “I think Hayden is going to do very well. He can block at the point of attack and stretch the field vertically. He’s got really good hands. I think more than anything, he has a competitive edge.”

Skai Moore

Draft Projection: Fourth round

Muschamp: “Instinctive, can play against two-back run teams, can play in space, has pass rush ability, extremely smart.”

Taylor Stallworth

Draft Projection: Undrafted

Muschamp: “Taylor Stallworth is a guy that I think is very under the radar based on the NFL people I talk to. He can hold the point inside, get matched up against a lesser guard and win in the pass rush, extremely bright, extremely intelligent, I think he’s got a tremendous upside.”

Jamarcus King

Draft Projection: Undrafted

Muschamp: “Jamarcus King is a guy that brings you some length at the corner position, has long arms, made a lot of plays on the ball, made a tremendous leap from his junior year to his senior year in his play.”

Muschamp also praised seniors Chris Lammons (DB), D.J. Smith (DB), Cory Helms (OL), Alan Knott (OL) and Dante Sawyer (DL), who were not invited to the combine.

“Those guys played good football for us last year and all those guys will have an opportunity in camp whether they are drafted or not drafted,” Muschamp said. “They will have an opportunity to make teams.”
