A short time from now, in an arena not so far away...

South Carolina men’s and women’s basketball programs will both host “Star Wars” theme nights at Colonial Life Arena this December, inviting fans to dress up in costumes and selling specialty merchandise with both Gamecock and “Star Wars” logos and content.

The theme nights are the result of an agreement between the university and Lucasfilm, the production company behind the iconic sci-fi film series. They will also include limited edition rally towels, on-court promotions and games and $8 tickets for the upper deck. Fans who do dress in costume are asked not to bring masks or props. Both games are slated to tip off at noon.

The women’s team will host the first theme night on Dec. 3 when the Gamecocks face No. 16 Duke, with the men’s squad following on Dec. 9 for its game against Coastal Carolina.

The official press release did not say if either team will sport novelty uniforms to mark the occasion, but if they do, there’s plenty of inspiration to draw upon from other sports.
