South Carolina’s win against LSU helped jump the Gamecocks two spots in the league standings. It’s the two spots USC needs to earn a first-round bye in the SEC tournament.
Heading into Saturday – the final day of the regular season – South Carolina sits 10th in the SEC. Such a seeding would earn the Gamecocks a second-round matchup against the No. 7 seed next Thursday in St. Louis – and get them out of next Wednesday’s set of first-round games.
Heading into Saturday, the SEC tournament has this field and schedule:
Wednesday’s first round (March 7)
No. 12 LSU vs. No. 13 Ole Miss (7 p.m.)
No. 11 Georgia vs. No. 14 Vanderbilt (9 p.m.)
Thursday’s second round (March 8)
No. 9 Texas A&M vs. No. 8 Alabama (1 p.m.)
LSU-Ole Miss winner vs. No. 5 Arkansas (3 p.m.)

Georgia-Vanderbilt winner vs. No. 6 Missouri (9 p.m.)
Friday’s quarterfinals (March 9)
Texas A&M-Alabama winner vs. No. 1 Auburn (1 p.m.)
LSU, Ole Miss or Arkansas vs. No. 4 Kentucky (3 p.m.)
South Carolina-Mississippi State winner vs. No. 2 Tennessee (7 p.m.)
Georgia, Vanderbilt or Missouri vs. No. 3 Florida (9 p.m.)
Saturday’s semifinals (March 10)
Texas A&M, Alabama or Auburn vs. LSU, Ole Miss, Arkansas or Kentucky (1 p.m.)
South Carolina, Mississippi State or Tennessee vs. Georgia, Vanderbilt, Missouri or Florida (3 p.m.)
Sunday’s championship (March 11) tips at 1 p.m.
Time remains for movement, however.
USC is one of three teams at 7-10 in the league, joining Georgia and LSU. Since the Gamecocks went a combined 3-0 against the Bulldogs and Tigers, they win the tie-breaker.
Carolina travels to Auburn on Saturday. Georgia is at Tennessee. LSU hosts Mississippi State.
The Gamecocks can’t get any higher than the No. 9 seed. They can’t drop any lower than No. 12.
