Linebacker Michael McAlister (6-2 230) of Timmonsville, who attends Fork Union Prep, Va., has conditionally committed to USC, according to his prep school coach John Shuman.
"He is going to South Carolina if he gets his academics," Shuman said.
USC recruiter Brad Lawing was by the school Friday to check in on McAlister and three other future Gamecocks. McAlister is a regular high school senior at Fork Union but plays on the prep school team because of his age. He will have to graduate in May and meet the university and NCAA requirements before he can ben admitted to USC. But as of now, according to Shuman, USC plans to sign him in February.
"He's a true mike linebacker," Shuman said. "He's physical, very heady, and can go sideline to sideline. McAlister is the team's leading tackler thru two games.

As for the other Gamecock connections at Fork Union, DE Kelcy Quarles (6-4 275), DB Brison Williams (5-11 200) and LB Brandon Golson (6-2 218) signed with USC last February but did not qualify.
Each remains committed to USC according to Shuman and each is on track to graduate in December.
Quarles has about 8 tackles and 2 sacks thus far. Shuman said right now Quarles doesn't plan to take any other official visits besides USC. He does not expect Williams or Golson to consider any other schools.
With McAlister's conditional commitment and the confirmation of the three other commitments, USC now has 19 pledges for the 2011 class.
