Defensive back Ahmad Christian (5-10 195) of Jacksonville, Fla., committed to the Gamecocks on Sunday.
Christian said his comfort level with recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. had a lot to do with his decision.
"I've known Coach Spurrier for about six years," he said. "During my visit I felt like I fit in. I know a lot of guys on the team like Ace Sanders."
He's the 31st pledge for this year's class.
Christian had his official visit at USC this weekend. The Gamecocks were his only official visit. He was scheduled to take one to Tennessee next weekend.
He picked the Gamecocks over Tennessee, Auburn and Miami.
Christian can play either of the corner positions. Last season he had 62 tackles with 4 interceptions.
"I feel like I have a good chance of playing early," Christian said.
Christian is also a big-time baseball prospect, and the Gamecocks will have to sweat out this summer's draft. If he doesn't sign for pro baseball, he plans to play both sports at USC.
