DL Martin Aiken (6-3 245) of Bamberg-Ehrhardt has truly become a national recruit. Thursday he was offered by Southern Cal giving him offers from coast to coast. Trojan assistant Willie Mack Garza offered Aiken Thursday according to his coach Butch Crosby.
Aiken has over 20 offers including Clemson and USC. Some of the others are Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Illinois, NC State, East Carolina, Virginia Tech, Texas Tech, North Carolina, Auburn, Alabama and Michigan. Aiken will visit Tennessee this Saturday for a junior day.
According to Crosby, Aiken is in no hurry to make a decision. "He wants to see who comes in thru the spring," he said. "If he does not decide in the summer, he will wait until after the season. He wants to see where he fits in, where he'll have a chance to compete for playing time, and the academics."
Former USC assistant Shane Beamer, who is now at Virginia Tech, talked with Aiken on the phone Wednesday night.
