South Carolina gained its eighth commitment for the 2012 football class Saturday from defensive end Darius English (6-6 215) of Powder Springs, Ga.
English announced the commitment Monday.
“It’s a great school and it just felt like home,” said English, who visited USC on Saturday. He had also visited in the spring.
“I have two teammates there (Marcquis Roberts and Rory Anderson)," he said. "I can see them winning a national championship in a couple of years. They have the best facilities I’ve seen and a really nice campus.”
English said he picked the Gamecocks over Arkansas. Some of his other offers were Kentucky, Illinois, East Carolina, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Auburn and Wake Forest.
English said he will put on about 30 more pounds before getting to USC next summer, and the Gamecock coaches expect him to be a strong rusher off the end.
“They see me as a pass rusher, and Coach [Brad] Lawing compares me to Devin Taylor,” he said.
Last season English had 87 tackles and 17 sacks.
