WR Christian Owens of Griffin, GA will make an official visit to USC this weekend and before leaving on Sunday he expects to become the Gamecocks' newest commitment for their 2015 class. Owens was a Georgia commitment until last week when he broke off that engagement. He immediately reached out to USC and the Gamecocks responded with strong interest. And despite recent overtures from Clemson and Auburn, Owens said his plans are to commit to USC and enroll in January.
Owens talked Sunday with USC receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr. who gave him some insight as to how he would fit in with the Gamecocks.
"He was watching my highlight film and he was basically telling me all that all of what I did was at wide receiver and he had no plans on putting me at tight end unless I put on weight to 250 pounds," Owens said. "He doesn't see that likely to happen. As far as them using me, they will go over film this weekend and see how I will be used. He and I will sit down and watch film."
Owens said his parents will make the visit with him and they got some questions answered over the phone by Spurrier Jr. themselves.
"My mother had questions about academics and stuff like that," Owens said. "And she wanted to know if we had to sign papers on this visit or if there would be another visit."
Owens will play in a playoff game Friday night before he and his parents head to Columbia.
