Ridge View center Malcolm Wilson had what you might call a complete weekend.
On Friday, the 6-foot-11 center helped his team clinch a region championship. Saturday, he had a very successful unofficial visit with VCU. And Sunday he landed an offer from a school that has had a few good big men over the years, Georgetown.
“The VCU visit was great,” Wilson said. “I was able to see the practice facility and watched a competitive game against Dayton. I was impressed to see that the games are as hyped as they seem in the promo videos and be apart of their 114th straight sellout. Coach Rhoades and Byers were great company while we where there.”
Wilson has offers from USC, Clemson, VCU, SC State, Hampton and now Georgetown.
He’s also still hearing from USC.
“Spoke with Coach Chuck Martin (Saturday) morning,” WIlson said. “They keep in contact to make sure I’m doing well and ask about the season.”
The fact Hoyas coach and legendary center Patrick Ewing identified him as a scholarship worthy prospect is big for Wilson.
“Georgetown recently has been recruiting very hard,” he said. “I’ve been communicating with Coach Orr every couple days and was happy he was able to watch our game last Friday. He called me to let me know that Coach Ewing wanted to extend a scholarship to me. I don’t know much about them except they are a good academic school and their dominate history during Coach Thompson’s time.”
Clemson also remains on Wilson hard and he thinks he may make a return trip there Sunday for the Duke game.
“Clemson has continued to show close interest. Coach Smith was at the game (Friday) night,” Wilson said. “Right now I’m not trying to pick any favorites but I do like Clemson and what they offer. They offer a great space for me to get an education and play high level basketball.”
Wilson also has drawn interest from Wake Forest, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech.
