Once again Twitter reared its ugly head in recruiting.
Last Sunday defensive back Tancey Richardson of South Aiken announced a commitment to South Carolina on Twitter before speaking to USC coaches. Richardson learned a couple of days later that the Gamecocks weren’t ready to take his pledge. In fact, USC coach Will Muschamp never acknowledged the commitment with his “Spurs Up” tweet for taking a commitment.
Friday afternoon, however, Muschamp did send out an alert, apparently for defensive back Zay Brown (6-0, 180) of Athens, Ga. Brown tweeted a in response to the “Spurs Up” but quickly removed the tweet from his page. And as of Friday afternoon Brown would not confirm that he’s a USC commitment.
“I’ll let you know July 23,” Brown said. “That’s when I’m visiting with my family. I will announce it July 23 if I did or not.”
Muschamp is hosting a recruiting party for prospects on July 23.
Brown was offered last Saturday after working out at the final Muschamp camp of June. He also has offers from Colorado State, Wake Forest, Charlotte, Middle Tennessee, Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Miami of Ohio, Georgia State and Western Kentucky.
He’s being recruited as a safety and had 78 tackles with 6 interceptions last season.
