Linebacker James Houston of Plantation, Fla., has made a couple of visits to South Carolina, including one for a camp last month. He says the Gamecocks are one of the schools very active with him in recruiting.
He’s also hearing from Florida, Michigan and Wisconsin.
Houston (6-2 230) said he gets a strong message from USC when he talks with Will Muschamp, Travaris Robinson and Coleman Hutzler “almost every day.”
“I know that they want me really bad,” Houston said. “They are taking four linebackers and I know they have three committed, so they are kind of waiting for me to make my decision at this point. I know they want me pretty bad. I could definitely see myself at South Carolina. They want me to come in and play right away. I have no choice but to listen to that. I’m definitely looking at South Carolina very hard.”
Houston said it seems to him that USC, Wisconsin and Florida are pushing the hardest for him through their recruiting efforts. He doesn’t have a favorite among the three. He also said Miami has told him he’s their No. 1 linebacker target but said he really hasn’t seen the recruiting effort from the Hurricanes to support that.
Houston plans to take some more visits this summer but has not decided where. And he plans to wait until after the season on his decision.
▪ DB Tre Shaw of Ellenwood, Ga., has set July 18 for his commitment announcement. He recently narrowed his list to Clemson, USC, North Carolina and Auburn. He’s visited all four this summer.
▪ Point guard Ja Morant (6-2) of Crestwood visited USC late last month. He also visited East Carolina. He has offers from Duquesne, SC State and Maryland-Eastern Shore. He’s also hearing from Clemson. Morant averaged 27 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists per game last season.
▪ DE J’Bril Glaze of Tampa says he continues to hear from USC “moderately. It hasn’t been very recent. About a month ago.” He is hearing a lot from Indiana, Mississippi State and Cincinnati and he recently heard from Alabama. Glaze said USC did scout him during the spring. Glaze said he and some of his teammates will either visit or camp at USC later this month. He has a top eight of USC, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Arizona, Indiana, Michigan State, Tennessee and South Florida. Glaze doesn’t plan to make a decision until after his season.
