Defending women’s basketball national champion South Carolina will host a familiar face for an exhibition game.

The Gamecocks will take on Coker on Nov. 3 at Colonial Life Arena, Coker announced Tuesday. The Cobras are coached by former USC great Shannon Johnson.

“We have three exhibition games with Division I teams and the first is against the NCAA women’s basketball champion University of South Carolina Gamecocks,” Johnson said in a release. “My friend and role model Dawn Staley, will give us an opportunity to play against the champions.”

Staley and Johnson were teammates on Team USA’s 2004 gold medal winning basketball team in the Summer Olympics and played against each other in the WNBA.

Johnson was an All-American and four-time All-SEC selection at South Carolina and had her jersey retired in 2004. She set the record for scoring in a season at South Carolina, averaging 24.7 points per game.

USC is coming of a 33-4 season and won its first national championship. The Gamecocks have yet to release their full schedule yet.
