THE PLAYOFFS ARE are in full swing this Friday night as the Class 4A schools will join in. The other classes started last Friday.
Here’s how the Midlands teams should fare (there are no Midlands teams in A):
In the upper bracket of the Div. I, Sumter will take on Summerville, and Lexington will travel to White Knoll, which lost at Lexington, 50-33, in the final regular season game.
The strength is in the lower backet. A win by No. 2 seed Dutch Fork over Mauldin will likely put the Silver Foxes in a rematch with Dorman, who beat Dutch Fork earlier in the season.
There are at least four lower bracket teams capable of a state championship: Dutch Fork, Dorman, Byrnes, and Northwestern.
In Div. II, River Bluff will be the underdog against Goose Creek. Westwood is in the same bracket and will face Colleton County. With a win, Westwood would host Greenwood in round two.
In the lower bracket, Blythewood faces tough South Florence.
A.C. Flora is the lone survivor in the upper bracket after first-round exits by Airport, Camden, Chapin, Dreher and Gilbert. The Falcons take on Lancaster.
The Falcons have the home-field advantage and could eventually take on Wren, led by Clemson commmit quarterback Kelly Bryant.
Fairfield Central knocked out Mid-Carolina in the first round and appear headed for a rematch with Dillon in the title game. The Griffins should be favored this week against Strom Thurmond.
In the Div. II, Keenan remains the only Midlands team after Batesburg-Leesville was upset by Abbeville, 34-28 in overtime. The Raiders got a solid win over Central and will take on Chesnee (10-1).
