River Bluff rallied from a three-touchdown deficit in the second half to pull off a first-round shocker, beating top-seeded Goose Creek, 22-21, in the first round of the Class 4A Division II playoffs on Friday.
No. 16 seed River Bluff scored all of its points in the second half, with the final 14 coming in the fourth quarter.
River Bluff snapped Goose Creek’s 10-game win streak to earn their first 4A D-II playoff win. River Bluff (8-4) will face York next week in the second round.
Quarterback Brandon Tillmon’s 6-yard run with 45 seconds left gave River Bluff a 22-21 lead. Earlier on the drive, River Bluff converted a fourth and 5.
Goose Creek (10-2) drove to River Bluff’s 22 with five seconds remaining, but a jump ball to the end zone was incomplete, sealing the Gators’ fate.

FAIRFIELD CENTRAL 34, STROM THURMOND 7 At Winnsboro, Fairfield Central (11-1) won its 11th consecutive game to advance to the Class 2A Division I semifinals for the third year in a row. The Rebels’ season ends at 7-5. Fairfield Central will host No. 3-seed Newberry next week.
WESTWOOD 34, COLLETON COUNTY 10 At Blythewood, Westwood held Colleton County scoreless in the second half to turn a three-point lead into a first round Class 4A Division II playoff win.
The Redhawks (11-1) opened scoring with an 79-yard kick return touchdown from John Trapp, and field goals from Brandon Howard kept Westwood out front. Leading rusher Andrew Plante scored on a 3-yard run in the third quarter, and Trapp made the game a runaway with two scoring runs in the final period.
Westwood will host Greenwood in the second round.

NEWBERRY 42, WOODRUFF 28 At Woodruff, Newberry took to the ground and played keep-away against Woodruff’s spread attack, scoring 21 unanswered points to win in the second round of the Class 2A Division I playoffs. Newberry (10-2) advances to play Fairfield Central in the third round.
KEENAN 60, CHESNEE 39 At Chesnee, D’Marco Zeigler, Tiski Gray and Tyreick Davis-Newton totaled six touchdowns – with Davis-Newton scoring three times – as Keenan cruised into next week’s Upper State final. Keenan (8-4) hosts Ninety Six, which won 21-18 over Abbeville, next week.
