Harris helps B-L crack Top 10 at state for first time in 10 years

Batesburg-Leesville cracked the Top 10 at the Class 2A state boys track and field finals for the first time in 10 years at the 2008 gathering on May 3 at Harry Parone Stadium.

The Panthers, behind the productive work of senior Josh Harris, rang up 30 points and finished in a three-way tie for eighth-place with Pelion and Waccamaw. B-L last had a Top 10 state showing in 1998 when it, you guess it, ended up tied for eighth place.

Harris, a star tailback for two years at B-L, came away with two silver medals in his final high school athletic outing - finishing second in the 200 and running a leg on the second-place 1600 relay team. He also chipped in a fourth-place finish in the 100. Last year, Harris was second in the 100, fifth in the 200 and helped the B-L 4x400 relay crew finish third.

The Panthers other individual contributors were C.J. Glenn (4th, shot put), Colby Watkins (7th, 100) and Cody Sullivan (7th, discus).
