The Irmo girls soccer team finished with a 9-13 record this spring and is hopeful of getting back into the black again in 2009.
“The 2008 season was a rebuilding year for us,” said Yellow Jackets coach Mike Mauldin. “We lost 3 All-state players from the 2007 team and they were hard to replace. This team showed a lot of heart and never gave up. We had one of the strongest schedules in the state and our players continued to battle against all sides.
“With a strong group of returning playerts, we should be an improved team in 2009. We return 17 players and have a strong group of rising 9th graders. Our goal for 2009 is to contend for the region championship.”
Junior Haley Hutchens had an outstanding season, finishing with 13 goals and nine assists to lead the team in scoring. Hutchens was named to the all-state and all-region teams.
