Newberry senior Bobby Coleman has been named the Region 3-2A basketball player of the year.
The 6-7 senior forward averaged 14.0 points, 12.7 rebounds and 5.7 blocks a game this season for the Bulldogs, and sported a 48% field goal conversion rate.
Coleman and Saluda’s Cassius Bosket are the Region 3 players on the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association Class 2A all-state team, released on Feb. 10. Bosket, a 5-6 junior guard and the second-highest vote getter among region coaches, averaged 12 points, five assists and two steals a game this season for the Tigers.
Newberry’s Gary Rouse, a 5-5 junior guard, joined teammate Coleman on the all-region squad. Rouse averaged 13 points, 4.2 assists and 3.3 steals a game this season. He also converted 52% of his shots from the field and 83% at the free-throw line.
