Ridge View enjoyed a successful baseball season in 2008, finishing with a 20-7 overall record, a share of the Region 5-4A pennant and two regular season tournament championships.
“We had a terrific season,” said Blazers coach Tommy Hill. “We won 20 games and both of our tournaments, which we are very proud of. We had three outstanding seniors in Jay Griffin, Cam White and Will Taylor, and all of them will have the opportunity to play college baseball next year. Cam, of course, was selected to play in the North-South all –star game in June in Myrtle Beach. We have seven starters returning, which is encouraging but it will be difficult replacing our departing seniors. Those seniors combined for 13 games as pitchers and accounted for 83 RBIs.”
Griffin hit .280 with 27 RBIs and was 8-2 with a 2.22 ERA on the hill. White batted .421 and had a .513 on-base percentage. Along the way, White led the team in runs scored (36), hits (40), triples (2) and home runs (9), shared the team lead with eight doubles and was third on the squad with 26 RBIs out of the leadoff spot. He was also 3-0 in a pitching role. Taylor hit .356 with eight doubles and a team-high 30 RBIs. He was 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA on the mound.
Six starters are expected to return – Hughston Armstrong (.464, 36 runs, 5 HRs, 17 RBIs, 18 walks), Blake Clamp (.236, 24 runs, 16 walks), Andrew Hill (.364, 25 runs, 23 RBIs), Julio Iglesias (.316, 16 runs, 18 RBIs, 16 walks), Tony Price (.250, 17 runs) and Austin Ross (.333, 13 runs, 22 RBIs).
