Harstville at Camden
Time: 8 p.m.
Game notes: The Bulldogs face a traditional rival in their first-ever Week 0 season debut. Camden is looking to turn things around in the wake of two straight losing seasons. CHS went 3-8 a year ago, but did qualify for the Class 3A state playoffs. The Bulldogs have won only seven of 21 games over the past two seasons … Hartsville is facing a rebuilding project after graduating 26 seniors, 15 of them starters, off last season’s potent 9-4 team that advanced to the second round of the Class 4A Division II playoffs … Running back Dre Scott is the only proven skill player returning on offense. He ran for more than 900 yards last season, and averaged 7.5 yards per carry. Shawn Smith, who rushed for more than 700 yards at fullback, moves to middle linebacker this season.
Series history: The Bulldogs and Red Foxes are long-time foes, dating back to the 1920s, and have met every season since 1968 … Hartsville is 3-0 vs. Camden since Jeff Calabrese assumed the Red Foxes job in 2005. The Red Foxes took a 21-20 edge in the series since 1968 with last season’s 42-0 blowout … Camden had won seven in a row vs. Hartsville after Jimmy Neal took over at his alma mater in 1998.
