Football: Fairfield Central at Blythewood

Fairfield Central: Reggie Kennedy is back at the Griffins helm after a two-season stay at Orangeburg-Wilkinson. Kennedy was 31-16 is his first four-year stint at FC (2002-05), including a 22-3 run in his in his last two years before departing … The Griffins should be much improved on defense this season with the return of seven starters … The spread offense is in the hands of veteran quarterback Justin Trapp. Receiver McKendrick Thompson also has experience at quarterback.

Blythewood notes: In the wake of two wild, glorious and sometimes controversial varsity seasons, the Bengals are gearing up for their first season in Class 4A with a virtually all-new varsity cast … Blythewood enters the season riding a 24-game winning streak … The biggest question entering the season is: who will replace Richard Mounce at quarterback? It will be either senior Torrence Daniel or sophomore Chris Baker … One of the few familiar faces is Aaron Mayes, who kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired in the Class 3A state championship game as a sophomore in 2006.
