Lugoff-Elgin notes: Expectations are running high as the Demons return the most experienced team in Region 4-3A. L-E is expected to be a prime contender for the region title this fall along with defending champion Chester and Fairfield Central … Scott Jones welcomes back seasoned hands at 19 positions. His team is particularly deep up front on both sides of the line … Nine starters are back on defense, including linebacker Campbell Connell (114 tackles) and end Ryan Wannamaker (89 tackles) … The key skill men on offense are returning quarterback Forrest Koumas and running backs Phillip Osborne and Corey Oswell. Osborne led the team is rushing with 917 yards last season, while Oswell led the club in scoring with 48 points.

White Knoll notes: The Timberwolves enter the season with the goal of achieving their first winning record and making the state playoff cut for the first time since moving up to Class 4A in 2002 … WK figures to be strong on defense, and has a veteran base on the offensive line … The big questions are at the offensive skill spots, especially quarterback and running back … The receiving corps is a good one with seniors Corey Holmes and Hunter Counts on hand. Holmes led the team in receiving in 2006, but did not play last season. Counts was the top receiver a year ago.

Series history: The teams split two previous decisions. L-E scored a 28-18 win in the first-ever meeting in 2006, while the Timberwolves evened the ledger with a 31-28 triumph last season.
