Irmo’s young girls cross country team is looking to move up this season after turning in a respectable, 11th-place showing at the Class 4A state finals in 2007. Veteran coach Mike Moore, who is entering his 26th season at Irmo, welcomes back four of the five scoring runners off a team that just missed the Top 10 state cut a year ago.
Senior Raheema Hodges, an all-area distance runner in track last spring, leads the veteran but still youthful Yellow Jackets. Hodges made the all-state cut in cross country last fall by finishing 13th at the season finale. Sophomore Kaitlen Brown and freshmen Savannah Radenbaugh and Carly Cox fell in behind Hodges’ lead at state a year ago, and return a year older and stronger.
Irmo figures to be in thick of a spirited battle for the Region 5-4A title this season with neighboring Dutch Fork and Lexington.
