South Pointe notes: The highly regarded Stallions thumped J.L. Mann 56-0 in their season opener, setting a new school single-game scoring record. SP scored two touchdowns in a 15-second span in the first quarter en route to a 21-0 lead at the end of the first 12 minutes of play … Quarterback Stephon Gilmore, in limited playing time, completed 6 of 10 passes for 70 yards and ran three times for 61 yards and one touchdown. Prime running back Devin Wherry had 64 yards rushing and two TDs on 10 carries … Defensive back Devonte Holloman, a blue-chip transfer from North Carolina, scored two touchdowns in his Stallions debut – a 54-yard punt return and a 40-yard interception return.
Fairfield Central notes: The Griffins ended Blythewood’s 24-game winning with a rousing 40-21 triumph at Blythewood Stadium in Reggie Kennedy’s return to the Griffins helm … Quarterback Justin Trapp, receiver MacKendrix Thompson and running back Greg Gadsden were the FC offensive headliners. Trapp completed 5 of 8 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 54 yards and one TD on nine carries. Thompson finished with five catches for 124 yards and three scores. Gadsden darted for 77 yards and one TD on just seven carries … On defense, Ralph Cooper had a team-high 11 tackles, Mike Irby was credited with eight stops, Jordan Belton had six tackles, two TFL and one sack and Josh Roseborough had six tackles and two sacks.
